About the series:
Permaculture in the City: Shenzhen Field Trip(FULL)

(18 Apr – Wutong Dao | 19 Apr – Urban Community Garden Projects)

Cities may be built of concrete, but they also hold powerful potential for ecological transformation. Across these two field trips, we explore pioneering examples of how permaculture principles are being woven into Shenzhen’s dynamic urban landscape.

1) 18 April : Wutong Dao Visit

Wutong Dao is China’s first real estate complex designed using permaculture principles. This visionary development integrates office buildings, a hotel, rooftop farms, and public spaces that enable low-impact, resource-smart living. It also hosted the Second Chinese National Permaculture Conference in 2025.

📅 Date: 18th April 2026
🕒 Time: 10:00 – 13:00
📍 Venue: Wutong Dao
📣 Meeting Point: 08:30 at Sheung Shui MTR Station
💲 Fee: HK$580 (This fee covers the tour only. Transportation costs will be at your own expense.)

2) 19 April : Shenzhen City Permaculture Tour(FULL)

Shenzhen’s permaculture community has grown rapidly in recent years, with hundreds of community and eco-garden project initiatives emerging across the city. Guided by local expert Ivy, this tour explores selected garden projects to understand how ecological thinking is influencing city planning, community life, and sustainable design in one of the world’s fastest‑developing cities.

📅 Date: 19th April 2026
🕒 Time: 10:00 – 17:30
📍 Venue: Selected sites across Shenzhen
📣 Meeting Point: 10:00 at Shenzhen Wan Port
💲 Fee: HK$900 (Lunch included.)

Remarks

  • Participants attending both days are recommended to stay overnight at Taihua Wutong Hotel. Click here for hotel booking information.
  • Transportation will be arranged from Wutong Dao to the selected site on 19 April for participants joining both field trips.

3) Social Permaculture Gathering – Community, Culture & Connection

Permaculture is more than growing food or designing landscapes—it is about nurturing relationships, collaboration, and human ecosystems.

Spend a meaningful morning with us at Reed Blossom Community in Nam Chung, an eco‑village led by The Partnership for Nature Education and Conservation (est. 2020). Their mission is to foster sustainable living, preserve rural heritage, and support resilient community life.

This gathering invites dialogue, reflection, and connection. Our hope is that it will plant the seeds of a stronger permaculture network in Hong Kong.

📅 Date: 1 May 2026
🕒 Time: 09:30 – 12:30
📍 Venue: Reed Blossom Community, Nam Chung
📣 Meeting Point: 09:00 at Sheung Shui MTR Station
💲 Fee: HK$580

4) Ocean Day: Can Permaculture Help Our Seas?

Hong Kong’s identity is intertwined with the ocean - yet our marine ecosystems are at risk. Join us for a half‑day eco-friendly boat tour offering a rare opportunity to observe Lantau’s marine environment up close. This is a chance to experience the sea not just as a landscape, but as a living system.

Together, we will:

  • Learn about coastal ecosystems and marine biodiversity
  • Observe marine mammals and wildlife in their natural habitat
  • Explore the challenges facing Hong Kong’s oceans today, and explore emerging ideas around marine permaculture.

📅 Date: 2 May 2026
🕒 Time: 09:30 – 13:00
📍 Venue: Hong Kong Dolphinwatch Boat
📣 Meeting Point: Tung Chung New Development Pier
💲 Fee: HK$680 / adult
