“Spring into Green” Parent-Child Ambassadors

“A hundred birds, a hundred adventure stories.” This year, Green Hub will collaborate with the local paper-machen team Hira hira, using the beauty of egrets in the city and Hong Kong’s ten most commonly rescued wild birds as the starting point. Together, they will host multiple paper bird creation workshops and urban ecology appreciation activities. Families and individuals are specially invited to become “Spring into Green” Parent-Child Ambassadors, working together to craft over 100 paper birds. These creations will be publicly exhibited at Green Hub’s “Spring into Green” Themed Exhibition from February to May 2026, raising public awareness of ecological conservation. All participants will receive a Spring into Green Parent-Child Ambassador Certificate, and after the exhibition, they may take their artworks home as keepsakes.

Children, through hands-on creation, will learn about the characteristics of egrets, understand the challenges they face in the city, and discover how they strive to survive. We will also guide participants into century-old heritage site, where an eco-tour will help them explore the traces of urban wildlife, nurturing children’s powers of observation and their care for the environment.

Birds play an important role in maintaining ecological balance. Yet, under rapid urban development and human activities, their survival faces many threats. Each year, the Wild Animal Rescue Center of Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden receives hundreds of injured birds, with especially high numbers of injured chicks during the spring breeding season, requiring round-the-clock care by the team. In addition, the Egretry at Tai Po Market, adjacent to Green Hub (the former Old Tai Po Police Station), is one of Hong Kong’s primary egret breeding grounds. During the heritage revitalization process, it has been regarded as a key conservation project.

We sincerely invite people to join us, and together, protect the wild neighbors of our city.
